FAA Wings Program | Aviation Integrity

FAA Safety Team

The FAA Safety Team’s Mission Statement:

“Improve the Nation’s aviation accident rate by conveying safety principles and practices through training, outreach, and education; while establishing partnerships and encouraging the continual growth of a positive safety culture within the aviation community.”

FAA WINGS AMT Proficiency Program

The WINGS AMT proficiency program has been a popular aviation safety program for years. In recent years, however, there have been several significant revisions to the program to make it a better mechanics proficiency program offering a variety of online resources to the AMT. The FAASTeam website offers the following description of the WINGS Program for the Aircraft Maintenance Technician:

Aviation safety begins on the ground and in the hangar. As an AMT you are an invaluable member of the aviation safety team.
Having the proper “tools” to do your job involves more than just filling your tool box with nice, shiny wrenches. The FAA Safety Team (FAASTeam) is committed to helping you achieve the highest level of safety by providing “tools” and resources to enhance your knowledge and proficiency.

Recurrent training is essential for the Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) to remain proficient in today’s aviation maintenance industry. Technology is advancing at a rate never before experienced and it is important for each AMT to take personal interest in their continued training.
“Safety is a journey, not a destination.”

FAA WINGS Pilot Proficiency Program

The WINGS pilot proficiency program has been a popular aviation safety program for years. In recent years, however, there have been several significant revisions to the program to make it a true pilot proficiency program. The FAASTeam website offers the following description of the WINGS Program:

“The WINGS Pilot Proficiency Program is based on the premise that pilots who maintain currency and proficiency in the basics of flight will enjoy a safer and more stress-free flying experience. Requirements for each aircraft category and class include specific subjects and flight maneuvers… The program encourages an on-going training program that provides you an opportunity to fly on a regular basis with an authorized flight instructor. The program is most effective if the training is accomplished regularly throughout the year, thus affording you the opportunity to fly in different seasons and in different flight conditions.”
